DL, GERMANY - DM100MGY - SPECIAL CALL

The sinking of the passenger liner Titanic has its 100th anniversary on Apr 15,2012. After hitting an iceberg the ship sank 300 nautical miles southeast of Newfoundland. Unfortunately, only about 700 of the 2200 passengers and crew members were rescued. It was one of the worst maritime disasters of civilian shipping. This resulted in numerous measures to accelerate the rescue of people at high seas. An international radio distress frequency was introduced and the duty to its constant monitoring. Even today these decisions are still valid and are written down in the SOLAS treaty, adapted to the technical possibilities of today.

The local DARC club in Schoenau (S65) commemorates this historic event and the beginning of coordinated emergency communications with the special callsign DM100MGY from Jan 1 until Dec 31. They will also hand out the special DOK 100MGY between Apr 1 and Jun 30, 2012. QSLs only via bureau, no direct QSLs and no eQSL.
